ALEXANDER MADDUX

b.c. 1615 ENG

Through descendant Nathan[iel] Maddox b.c. 1758 Somerset Co., MD

and with Alexander’s speculated father, Thomas b.c. 1585

Nathan being the son of Quaker Joseph of Chester Co., PA, and Wrightsboro, GA, was eliminated because (1) There were two Nathans in Miami Co., OH, about the same age in 1820;  (2)  For my Nathan to be a son of Joseph, Nathan would have had to be born around the 1740s, making Nathan in his 40s before having children; (3) The will of Nathan is registered in Montgomery Co., and his Revolutionary War grave is also found there (Quakers did not go to war); (4) Nathan’s will lists Michel as his wife, as do MD records.

Nathan being the son of James and brother of Ignatius in Charles Co., MD, also was eliminated.  (1)  Even if we estimated his year of birth the year immediately after oldest brother Notley was born, James would have had to marry when he was 19 or 20 to have a son (Nathan)  b. 1760. (2)   Then we’d have to squeeze the estimated year of birth for seven children (Nathan and his siblings) into nine years so James could marry his second wife in 1769.  (3)  In 1782 James and Nathan witnessed the will of Thomas Morton (Folio 151) in Charles Co., MD.  (4) Finally, James’ will of 1798 designated that Nathan continue in his home and take care of little brother John until John became 21 at which time he would turn the home over to John.  All this Nathan’s children were born in MD by then, and since there is no mention in the will of Nathan living in VA at the time, and my Nathan’s children all said they were b. VA, this cannot be my Nathan.

I think Charles Co., MD, Nathan and his brother Ignatius did both go to Miami Co., OH, but there were two Nathans in Miami Co. in 1820, one being mine whose children were b. VA, and the other being from Charles Co., MD, along with bro. Ignatius.  There were also two Nathans in Fauquier Co., VA 1790, one being mine who had married Michelle Robey, and the other being the one who married Anne Tennison.
