JOHN MADDOX

January 23, 1777

Goochland Co., VA

 

 

 

I, John Maddox of Goochland in James Northam Parrish do make and ordaine this to be my last will & testament in manner and form as followeth:

 

Item     I lend unto my Deare and Well beloved wife Mary Maddox all the Land whereon I know dwel in during her Natrille or widowhood.

 

Item     I give unto my fore sons Benjamin John Wilson and Michael Maddox all my Land to be equally divided when the youngest coms to the age of twenty one years to them and there heirs forever.

 

Item     I give unto my daughter Judeth Maddox one bed with striped ___ and one cow & calf.

Item     I give unto my daughter Elizabeth Maddox one cow & calf.

Item     I give unto my daughter Mary Maddox one cow & calf.

Item     I give unto my daughter Usly Maddox one cow & calf

Item     I give unto my daughter Sarah Maddox one cow & calf

 

Item     I lend unto my beloved wife Mary Maddox all the rest of my estate after my just debts are paid to be equally divided among all my children after her decease.

 

Item     and Lastly I do appoint my loving wife and Josep Woodson Junr & Joseph Pleasants to be my executors and Ex’ex of this my last will & testament

 

Whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affix my seal this twenty third day of January One Thousand Seven Hundred and Seventy Seven.

At a court held for Goochland County the 18th of January 1790 this last will and testament of John Maddox dec’d was presented in Court by Mary Maddox widow of the said John and the Executrix therein named and being proved by the oath of Benjamin Woodson   William Clarkson  &  John Sanders is ordered to be recorded & on the motion of the said Mary who made oath according to law and gave bond with Benjamin Woodson her security in Penalty of One Hundred and fifty pounds probat thereof was granted her in due form with leave for the executors to come in when they think fit.
